Strategic Learning Outcomes for this class:
- Evaluate and outline responses to prompts quickly and efficiently
- Expand vocabulary, grammar, and structure pertinent to advanced critical and analytical writing
- Develop a writing style (language, rhetoric, etc) beyond the requirements of 'proficient' for the student’s grade level
This course is designed to provide supplemental critical reading and writing skills to students in their early-mid stages of primary school education. The Young Genius teaching staff firmly believes that challenging students academically outside a conventional classroom environment is one of the most effective methods of advanced learning. Thus, we hope to provide a challenging course curriculum that will expand student's knowledge and ability to write in a superior, cohesive, and comprehensive manner.
The course will assist the student in expanding vocabulary, improving grammar and writing structure, and critically responding to news articles, current events, and scholarly writing. Throughout this course, we will identify each student’s individual writing needs and work either one-on-one or in small groups to overcome challenges through writing exercises, lectures, and homework assignments.
By the end of the course, students should be able to look back at their writing from the beginning of the course and see substantial improvements in their analysis and response to writing topics.
